halstrup-walcher, a pioneer in the area of compatibility with different field buses, has taken this a step further and has now become the first supplier of decentralised actuators also to provide positioning drives with an IO-Link interface.
There is no way to avoid wiring electrical drives for format changeovers. It is an area that requires detailed planning and consideration – long before the engineer starts erecting the machine. Selecting the correct wiring method can save a great deal of time and trouble during setup and servicing.
Precise format changeovers are an important priority for machine builders in Germany. Long before the phrase "Industry 4.0" entered popular usage, machinery developers were wondering how they could implement reliable adjustment mechanisms in their products while retaining good flexibility. Automatic format changeovers offer major advantages and provide an answer to this problem.
halstrup-walcher has found a new way of motivating its employees to exercise. For every kilometer they go, the company will donate one euro to a charitable cause. Because the goal is a total of 2000 kilometers, the maximum donation has been capped at 2000 euros. In 2015 the “Wurzelhopser”, a Nordic walking group whose name means “root hoppers”, walked 1250 kilometers, while the mountain bike group rode 1190 kilometers. In other words, employees not only met their goals – they exceeded them. The donation was divided equally between two Kirchzarten organizations: 1000 euros went to Ride2live and 1000 euros went to the Kirchzarten Bürgerstiftung (Civic Foundation). Congratulations to all of our employee athletes for their outstanding job!
Seldom does a term from the diverse nomenclature of “Industry 4.0” produce such astonishment and incomprehension when first encountered as “cyber-physical system” or CPS for short. Before we look more closely at this term and its meaning, we will firstly consider its embedding in the context of Industry 4.0.
Luftmeister® from halstrup-walcher, the measurement technology specialist, provides the missing link at the interface between energy management, air-conditioning technology and facility management: the world‘s first air meter and air energy meter records air consumption and energy flows within air-conditioning and process air systems based on high-precision mass flow and enthalpy sensors. The new instrument is factory-calibrated and thus offers maximum accuracy.
Life-sciences companies must monitor their critical production processes with monitoring systemsOne important task of monitoring is making measured data visible in the locations where local decisions depend on them. Measuring technology and cleanroom specialist halstrup-walcher now has put the perfect solution on the market for these requirements. Specifically, this is the multi-channel process panel PUC 44, which has a touch panel in the stainless steel frame.
The importance of volume flow measurements to air quality and operating costs has been underestimated for many years. Yet there is a growing recognition that excessive volume flow in air conditioning and process air systems sends operating costs spiralling upwards. Not only do ventilator fans consume extra energy in moving the surplus air around the system but expensive air conditioning processes (cooling, heating, humidifying or dehumidifying) generate further costs by treating unnecessarily large volumes of air.
Modular positioning systems offer flexibility for machine tool builders – now also available with IO-Link. Everyone is talking about the high flexibility factory: particularly since the emergence of the buzzword “Industry 4.0“, growing attention has focused on developing factory concepts that enable manufacturers to create specific products for their customers with the minimum additional investment of time and money. From packaging to filling or woodworking: every year, companies are facing growing pressure to be able to manufacture new formats at extremely short notice.
Maintenance of overpressure in cleanrooms or mini-environmentszoom Cleanroom operating requirements are becoming ever more stringent. The maintenance of overpressure is a good example of this process at work. The objective is to prevent any inflow of contaminated air by maintaining stable pressure cascades. Facilities with a number of cleanrooms (or plants with a number of mini-environments) create areas with different pressure levels in order to provide the greatest possible protection for the most sensitive zones. In the past, auditors could often be satisfied by showing them the pressure measurement on a large, round pressure gauge display. Much more accurate methods are required today. And this is perfectly justifiable. Uncontrolled contamination can endanger the quality of the end product and, in extreme cases, create a health risk. (...)
The consumption of power and water in the building portfolio has a central role in numerous sustainability reports. This is likewise true of investment companies, real estate developers and other players in asset management. Heat energy consumption is also closely examined in the reports. On the other hand, the issue of air consumption in air conditioning systems only very rarely shifts into focus.
The Volkswagen plant in Emden is a busy place. Located in the East Frisian region of Germany’s northwest coast, the facility and its over 8,000 employees will pass two major milestones this year, each of which would have produced considerable activity on its own: the new Passat B8 is on its way, and the plant will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014. The atmosphere in the plant’s gigantic paint shop, however, is one of professional calm. The 1,200 cars that enter here each day leave as high-gloss versions of themselves in every conceivable colour. (...)
Modern sauna technology scores highly in the quality of its design and innovation. This is particularly true of the market leader for sauna technology, EOS Saunatechnik GmbH from Driedorf, Germany. Traditional sauna cabins are still available, of course, but the design aspirations are growing constantly. EOS Saunatechnik has developed and launched an impressive innovation to perform this task in the growing number of saunas in wellness areas but also for private individuals, who wish to offer their guests a special event. (...)
At long last, the atmosphere eases in the shop tenants‘ annual „expenses meeting“. The facility manager of the shopping centre looks around with a satisfied air. In the past year, the manager of the chemist shop chain had worked out that his ventilation costs had to have been much lower than what was allocated to him. The invoice based on the percentage of surface was not justified. The basement location meant that air needed to be less cooled as in the upstairs shops. There were also shops with much higher ventilation that were nonetheless not charged higher costs. The health food shop had immediately chimed in, asking what the saving incentive would be if the costs did not depend on consumption at all, but on percentage of surface.
the Special Olympics. The games are open to male and female athletes above the age of eight years with mental or multiple disabilities. The young people come from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and invited groups from Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein.
