The fully integrated drives of the PSD series are receiving significant functional enhancements. In addition to expanded software options, the stepper‑motor‑based direct drives are now also available with 48‑volt technology. Thanks to the higher dynamics, more changeover cycles can be completed within the same amount of time, further increasing machine availability. These and other product innovations were presented by drive and measurement technology specialist halstrup‑walcher at this year’s interpack, the leading trade fair for packaging and processing, held in Düsseldorf.
The compact direct drives of the PSD family can now be operated as standard with either 24‑ or 48‑volt technology. Thanks to the increase to 48 V DC, either up to double the speed at unchanged torque or, alternatively, double the force at the same speed is possible. This results in high dynamics for more changeover cycles and thus maximum machine availability. The performance upgrade is available for PSD variants with IO‑Link or Industrial Ethernet communication. For IO‑Link versions, the power supply can optionally be implemented via an L‑coded power connector.
In 2026, the PSD product modular system was expanded to include POWERLINK as an additional communication interface. When configuring drives in the torque range from the current 0.25 to 8 Nm, users can now choose from six fieldbus systems—POWERLINK, IO‑Link, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, and CANopen—in addition to selecting the design, solid or hollow shaft version, various software expansions, and protection ratings.
In addition, modulo functionality is now available for all PSD 4xx variants, enabling continuous rotational motion without the need for resetting (e.g. for rotary tables or turning units).
